DIY 5kW metal-roof solar install: rails, panels, grounding, disconnect, inverter, wiring, and testing. No steps left out! I install a 5kW solar array and inverter with all the necessary details included, from start to finish. I start out measuring the roof and the panels and determine that 2 strings of 8 will fill my roof space. They are 320W panels, so X 16 = 5120 watts total. I mount them with the Q-rail mounting system and explain that process, including wiring and grounding. I then install an EG4 18kPV inverter, a DC disconnect, EMT conduit, and run THHN wires to the inverter. I hook everything up and give it a test, and at the end of the video I include performance over the past week since I turned it on. Solar is very doable once you understand the basics and also very affordable when you consider the money saved on electricity.
