Netflix’s One Piece is back with Season 2, and as someone who has never watched the anime or read the manga, I’m once again diving into the Grand Line as a total outsider. After being pleasantly surprised by Season 1, the big question now is whether the live-action adaptation can keep the momentum going… or if the magic starts to wear off.
In this review, I break down everything that worked for me in Season 2, including the show’s fun sense of adventure, some surprisingly emotional character moments (especially involving Chopper), and the continued expansion of the One Piece world. At the same time, there are definitely some growing pains. The season introduces a lot of new characters and storylines very quickly, some of the anime-style humor and tropes don’t always translate perfectly into live action, and the Devil Fruit powers can occasionally look a little ridiculous on screen.
So does One Piece Season 2 live up to the first season? Is the Netflix adaptation still worth watching for newcomers like me? Let’s talk about it.
