Christopher Nolan is one of the greatest filmmakers alive—but I don't think he was the right person to adapt Homer's Odyssey.
This isn't a complaint about book changes or missing scenes. Every adaptation changes things.
The real issue is that Nolan replaces Homer's worldview with his own.
Homer's Odyssey celebrates human cleverness, perseverance, loyalty, and the struggle to return home. Nolan transforms it into a story about guilt, trauma, and humanity's self-destructive nature.
In this video we'll look at:
• Why removing the gods changes everything
• Why Odysseus no longer feels like Odysseus
• Why characters like Menelaus, Circe, Calypso, and Agamemnon no longer work
• Why this adaptation feels strangely hollow despite following many of the original plot beats
Sometimes an adaptation can change nearly everything and still capture the spirit of the original.
Sometimes it keeps all the names... while losing the story entirely.
