Nocturnal 2 is an atmospheric Metroidvania in which you play as Ardeshir, bearer of the Enduring Flame,
who sets out to explore the dark depths and towering heights of the forgotten city of Ytash in order to break the curse that has consumed his homeland.

You have a flaming sword that can do basic combos on ground and air and the double jump is also
a launcher which is a really cool feature. The movement is generous and even though it's a bit floaty it's easy to move around, responsive and feels good. I would say combat could be tightened up but launching enemies and comboing them is very fun and flashy, maybe too flashy. This is very high contrast and dark game with a lot of particle effects.
Currently you can dash through enemies but there are no i-frames on the dash, so you will have to dodge projectiles.
You have a health bar but also if you jump or get hit too much you can lose your flame, but since there are candles everywhere you will usually find one to keep lit around you. The candle lighting mechanics are used in clever ways and I hope that the developer will find more interesting ways to use them in the full game.
I think it balances puzzles, platforming and combat really well. There are a good amount of checkpoints and a few hidden abilities that are spread out enough so you will find one to keep things from getting stale.
This is a fun and generous demo overall with cool atmosphere, fun platforming and combat with a cool fire mechanic. So far It is a nice little game but we will see if it can light a flame in my Jaded Metroidvania heart.
Nocturnal 2 is scheduled to launch later this year on Nintendo Switch and Steam. The demo is available January 27th on steam and will also be available during the February Steam Next Fest.
