NOAA’s Regional Integrated Sciences & Assessments (RISA) program supports research teams that help expand and build the nation’s capacity to prepare for and adapt to climate variability and change.
This video shares the story of how the Carolinas RISA team’s (CISA) work in coastal South Carolina is helping the City of Charleston and Town of Folly Beach proactively consider how to increase their resilience to increasing stresses from coastal flooding. CISA provides technical and organizational assistance to these communities to help them consider risks, identify viable solutions, and educate community members.

Established in 2003, CISA is based at the University of South Carolina with colleagues at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the South Carolina Sea Grant Consortium. The research CISA conducts in North and South Carolina seeks to advance our scientific understanding of climate in the region.
