NOAA conducts hurricane research in order to better understand tropical cyclones, improve forecasts, and protect lives and property. In addition to flying into storms and gathering data from the atmosphere, we are also studying the ocean's influence on storms. Saildrones are uncrewed ocean surface vehicles that are collecting data at the air-sea interface.
