Wow, cant believe i finished a wip I made way back in 2018! This project was always near and dear to my heart, its such a perfect song for Bramblestar and how he thinks back on his life with Squirrelflight throughout the many years they had together, I knew eventually I'd HAVE to finish this or else it'd be such a disservice.
I'm not much of a Squirrelflight lover, I actually don't like her that much, she was especially oh so infuriating in her super edition, I'm much more of a Bramblestar fan- but I can appreciate her, and I think this song does her some justice. She truly was a very selfless cat in her time, it's not crazy to me that now after all this time, she finally wants something for herself, which is what i THOUGHT she achieved by having Alderheart and Sparkpelt but I guess that's not enough for her...
Im getting ahead of myself- I mentioned I made this storyboard back in 2018, so the time period of this video is set i guess in Bramblestar's Storm? Basically, the end of the 5th arc/The Last Hope. I truly believed they should've remained broken up, but still close friends. After all they've been through, I can't imagine them ever separated. I'm pretty neutral on the bramblesquirrel ship, but much prefer them just as friends.
Anyway, I think the song's pretty self-explanatory. I love this self-reflection I have Bramblestar going through, that although he had the right to feel hurt, I think in the Reveal scene, he should've been there for Squirrelflight. especially when Squirrelflight's nearly always been there for him, despite the TNP group going their separate ways, his behavior about Squirrelflight getting close to Ashfur, his defense of Hawkfrost, ect. He can still be hurt, but it was never Squirrelflight's fault. I think, as a fandom, we should be a bit less pissed about Brambleclaw's behavior and more understanding of him, and a little more mad at Leafpool. She did drag Squirrelflight down with her! I'm just sayin'! Leafpool's novella is RIGHT there!
I also love at the end when Bramblestar does forgive her, Squirrelflight makes that one jab that I *KNOW* she absolutely would, saying she'd do it all the same over again. No Regrets! And
Bramblestar only chuckles to himself because yup, thats squirrelflight! It stings but he totally deserves that, and loves her anyway.

Its not out of the ordinary to daydream about being with the one you love, so why is it when Cinderpelt dreams, she can only imagine Sandstorm? Can it really be jealously that Cinderpelt is feeling for the other she-cat?

Holy hell its finally done! I feel like I was on standstill with my life- couldnt focus on responsibilites or resting when i had such a strong desire to finish this video. Ive had this idea sitting in my head for the longest while, and since i was waiting on more details about a PMV commission, i went back to watch the ol storyboard and thought, there isnt that much tweening, and its a short song. I can finish this easily! i should just keep my minds mouth shut cause holy dang look at the tweening i did. Theres so many mistakes that i couldnt be bothered to go back and fix, theyre more trouble than theyre worth! but it came out really good, just like how i envisioned in my head
So the song *is* quite literally about about wanting both a man you cant have and the woman hes with, but i mean COME ON~ listen to those lyrics!! I want to taste her lips? are you KIDDING ME? You couldve worded that in so many different ways and you chose THAT? As someone who struggled with compulsory heterosexuality growing up, trying so hard to force myself to like boys when in reality I was girl crazy, this song speaks to me in that sort of way(kinda like that Jolene song), so im choosing to interpret the song that way, and Ive always loved/projected on the idea of closeted lesbian Cinderpelt, so i planned this video a couple years ago. its MY way of coping!
So the video, in my head, goes: Sandstorm and Fireheart are major PDA ing in the camp clearing because They Can, and Cinderpelt struggles to push down feelings of jealously. This was apparent in Book 4 or 5 i think? When the two she cats have a little spat over spending time with Fireheart and hes like haha whats going on? cause hes too dumb to see. Cinderpelt is swept away in a daydream where she finds herself being swayed by the other she cat, but is interrupted by Yellowfangs voice, telling her to get back to work or go to sleep, which Cinderpelt promptly does. She struggles to sleep, her fears and insecurities manifesting literally in the warriors den where Fireheart and Sandstorm are probably cuddling and nesting together, a den where she cannot be due to being a medicine cat and her loneliness overcomes her, finally into a deep sleep. But again, her dreams of Sandstorm sweep her away and she indulges in the dream, finally falling into a fantasy that cannot be.
Eventually the dream comes to an end, fading back into reality where Cinderpelt wakes up alone and feelings of guilt and vulnerability overcome her and she hurries to leave her den. But upon stepping out, she sees Sandstorm and Fireheart waking up as well. She meets Sandstorms curious eyes, Sandstorm feeling quite unnerved by Cinderpelts feelings about her relationship with Fireheart, not wanting further negative confrontation. But Cinderpelt smiles to her, calming Sandstorms mentioned fears and she feels at ease with her interpretation of Cinderpelts approval of her and Fireheart, unknowing Cinderpelt has been developing romantic feelings of her own for Sandstorm. Cinderpelt realizes shes falling in deep and says put where she is, essentially trapped in her loneliness.
Though Yellowfang is there to comfort her, shes probably just assuming Cinderpelt still longs for the warriors life, and even though its more than that, Cinderpelt takes the comfort from her mentor. And fade to black!! its meant to end sadly, unfortunately all my ideas with Cinderpelt end sad when it comes to her love life, hopefully that changes tho -fingers crossed-
