The nation's top military officer says that there are no plans to send troops to voting locations for the midterm elections, according to a letter obtained by PBS News.

The letter from Gen. Dan Caine, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, was sent in response to a letter dated Aug. 18 from Sen. Elissa Slotkin, D-Mich.

While it is not legal for members of the military to be outside of polling locations, President Donald Trump has not been so clear on the issue.
