Dog reactivity, fear, leash tension, and unusual sound triggers are often symptoms of a deeper problem: the energy humans bring into the situation.
In this episode of Better Human Better Dog, I help two families replace fear, guilt, and physical force with calm, confident leadership.
Tavvy, a Shetland Sheepdog, reacts intensely to aluminum foil, plastic wrap, and trash bags. Through desensitization and calm correction, his family learns how anticipation and affection at the wrong moment can reinforce excitement.
Sansa, a Labrador mix, becomes reactive around other dogs. Her family discovers that tight leash tension, nervousness, and relying on physical strength make her feel responsible for protecting the pack. When they lead with calm energy, clear body language, and confidence, Sansa begins to follow and relax.
Both families must release past trauma to help their dogs move forward. When the humans change their energy, the dogs change their behavior.

$This Dog Attacked Again… During Rehabilitation | Cesar 911 When I step into this situation, I’m not just dealing with a reactive dog. I’m dealing with a neighborhood conflict. Stella has already attacked her neighbor, Tina, and her dog. And yet, instead of taking legal action, Tina chooses something very rare. She chooses to help. She wants to be part of Stella’s rehabilitation and prevent something even worse from happening. But when I evaluate Stella, I see something deeper than reactivity. I see predatory behavior. This isn’t just barking or lunging. This is stalking, targeting, and committing to the attack. At the Dog Psychology Center, I begin the rehabilitation process. And early on, Stella shows promising signs. She becomes calmer. More social. Even capable of walking alongside other dogs without reacting. But rehabilitation is never just about what the dog can do in a controlled environment. It’s about consistency and emotional readiness. And during a critical exercise, everything changes. Stella bites Tina again. That moment reveals the truth. The process isn’t complete. And more importantly, the emotional foundation isn’t fully stable yet. After the bite, Tina loses trust. She no longer feels safe with Stella in her environment. And that changes everything. As much progress as Stella has made, trust is something that can be broken in an instant. But I don’t see this as failure. I see it as part of the journey. Rehabilitation is not linear. There will be progress. There will be setbacks. What matters is whether the humans can continue forward with calm, consistent leadership. Because in the end, true transformation doesn’t depend only on the dog. Estoy lidiando con un conflicto entre vecinos. Stella ya atacó a su vecina, Tina, y a su perro. Y aun así, en lugar de tomar acciones legales, Tina elige algo muy poco común: Elige ayudar. Por más progreso que haya logrado Stella, la confianza es algo que se puede romper en un instante. Pero no lo veo como un fracaso. Lo veo como parte del camino. La rehabilitación no es lineal. Habrá avances. Habrá retrocesos. Lo que importa es si los humanos pueden seguir adelante con un liderazgo en calma y constante. Porque al final, la verdadera transformación no depende solo del perro.
