The problem of "No One Behind the Wheel vs. Distracted Pedestrian" is about how self-driving cars and people walking around can safely share the roads. Self-driving cars use cameras and sensors to see what's around them, but they can struggle when people are not paying attention, like when they are looking at their phones or listening to music with headphones.
People can act unpredictably, like crossing the street suddenly or not using crosswalks, which makes it hard for these cars to know what to do.
Unlike human drivers, self-driving cars can't make eye contact with pedestrians to signal their plans. To keep everyone safe, we need better car technology, clearer rules, and maybe changes to how streets are designed AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, pedestrians to take eyeballs out of their phone and pay attention in those crosswalks.
