If you plan to buy a car in Singapore in 2018, you won't be able to drive it thanks to a recent ban on new automobile registrations.

Only public and commercial vehicles will be given new licenses next year in Singapore. Private vehicles registered before the ban will remain legal.

The freeze is meant to help unclog traffic. Previously, Singapore had already capped the number of new vehicles, allowing growth of only 0.25 percent annually. The government has vowed to spend more than $20 billion to expand public transportation in the next five years, which, if it happens, will help give its growing population a little more space to breathe.
