You turn the knob and your bad ideas follow you in, confident as ever. They've been riding on your shoulders for years. They are not going to enjoy what happens next.
The beat starts at 115 BPM. Kick on every quarter, the hi-hat foot filling the gaps in between, snare rolls that don't let up. A bad idea has never once had to justify why it exists. In here it has to, and it can't. It looks around. It starts wondering what it ever was. The one that swears it killed in 2009 goes quiet. They lose conviction and dissolve, one at a time, and nobody comes to collect them.
The weight lifts somewhere in the second pass. You come up taller. You didn't notice the slump until it was gone. The back room you'd been using to store all of it is empty now, and the good stuff finally has somewhere to stand. Riffs that were stuck behind the bad ones the whole time walk right up to the front.
