There are a number of methods used to extract hemp and botanical products, but two in particular are in a constant competition for the proverbial crown. Supercritical CO2 and ethanol are both effective extraction
solvents that have been used in the industry for a number of years and there are pros and cons to each.
Ethanol and CO2 are both powerful and efficient extraction methods in terms of throughput, efficiency and potent end products.
In fact, each of these methods have been used for years in a variety of extraction industries including essential oils, cooking products and coffee decaffeination. So, it would seem there is a time and place for both ethanol and CO2 in the hemp and botanical industry… However, extraktLAB continually turns to supercritical CO2 as their extraction solvent of choice due to its clean and green status, reliable efficiency and lack of residual contamination when compared to denatured ethanol.
In this episode of extrakTALKS, Dr. Jon and Randall discuss a 30,000 ft high overview, breaking down which extraction method is right for your botanical or hemp extraction business. Dr. Jon compares supercritical CO2 and ethanol methods of extraction for botanical and hemp. Listen closely as they expose the pros, cons, facts, and myths spread throughout the botanical and hemp extraction industry.

![No Holds Barred!: Ultimate List of Hemp Strains
What is the ultimate list of hemp strains? Believe it or not, not all hemp plants are created equal. Varying hemp strains can determine the formulation, effects and quality of a CBD extract. The reasons for this are plenty - varying levels of CBD content, terpenes located in the hemp strain, overall grow quality of a particular hemp strain - these are all factors in creating a particular hemp derived product.
Whats more, a particular hemp strain can also determine the legality of a hemp product. Different hemp strains tend to have varying levels of delta 9 - still federally illegal in the United States. If a hemp strain is grown that tends to have a higher level of delta 9, it can lead to a hot crop. This means that a test of a hemp grow can be tested and will have to be legally destroyed if delta 9 levels are above .03%. Similar to this, other hemp strains can be grown to contain higher levels of CBG, CBN, and various terpenes to determine a unique hemp product.
In this episode of extrakTALKS, Dr. Jon and Randall discuss the ultimate list of hemp strains. This episode will cover listener submitted survey questions on what strains farmers prefer to grow, which strains have the best flavor, aroma, and cannabinoid content, what they do to ensure the best grow possible and more.
