You may have heard the claim that Africa had no writing before colonialism. Whether this claim is made by way of ignorance or to deliberately misguide the public, the accusation is as damaging as it is demonstrably false.
In reality, Africa is the home of writing, and as such, home to several of the oldest and most influential written languages known to man. Whether that be the insibidi script of west africa, the ge'ez script of East Africa, the ancient meroitic script of The Sudan, or the, now globally infamous, medu neter script (commonly known as hieroglyphs or hieratic) of Africa's Nile Valley; Africans have always prized the need to keep records and ledgers both orally, artistically and by means of the written word.

This information was taken from the Aim at Melanoma Foundation.
What is Cutaneous Melanoma? Cutaneous or skin melanoma (also called malignant melanoma, although any diagnosis of melanoma is cancer even if “malignant” is not used) develops in pigment cells called melanocytes. These melanocytes produce melanin, the vital pigment that gives our skin its color and protects it from damage caused by ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun or tanning devices. Cutaneous melanoma occurs when cancerous cells grow out of control (mutate) and crowd out normal cells. Usually, cutaneous melanoma begins in the epidermis—the top layer of skin—and can become invasive from there.
There are four main subtypes of cutaneous melanoma: superficial spreading melanoma; nodular melanoma; lentigo maligna melanoma; and acral lentiginous melanoma (ALM). Other subtypes, such as desmoplastic and amelanotic melanoma, also exist but are rare.
What is Acral Lentiginous Melanoma? Acral lentiginous melanoma (ALM) is a specific type of melanoma that appears on the palms of the hands, the soles of the feet, or under the nails. The word “acral” means “extremity” in Greek and refers to the occurrence of this type of melanoma on the extremities (hands and feet). The word “lentiginous” refers to the fact that the spot of melanoma is often much darker than the surrounding skin.
Though relatively uncommon in the general population, ALM is the most common type of melanoma in people with darker skin and those of Asian descent. However, it can appear on all skin types.
Because of the misconceptions that melanomas only occur in sun-exposed areas and that people of color are not at risk for melanoma, these melanomas can be discovered later than other types, after they have invaded deeper layers of skin or metastasized.
This information was reported in the National Library pf Medicine in a report titled Acral lentiginous melanoma written by Kelly Hall
Continuing Education Activity Acral lentiginous melanoma is a subtype of cutaneous malignant melanoma. It is comprised of malignant melanocytes, which can become invasive with time. It is often diagnosed at a later stage than the other forms of cutaneous malignant melanoma and in populations that are at a low risk for UV-induced melanomas, which highlights the need for early screening and detection.
It is the least common subtype of melanoma, comprising only 2 to 3% of total melanoma diagnoses. Unlike other CMM, UV-radiation is not thought to play a significant part in the development of ALM. It is most commonly on the lower extremities and is often advanced at the time of presentation leading to a high level of morbidity and mortality.
Incidence rates of ALM were highest in Hispanic Whites at 2.5 per 1,000,000 person-years and significantly lower in Blacks, Non-Hispanic Whites, and Asian/Pacific Islanders at 1.8, 1.8, and 1.1 per 1,000,000 person-years, respectively. Melanoma specific survival (MSS) was lower in Black and Hispanic White populations at 5 and 10 years than whites; however, when controlled for Breslow depth, no difference was seen. This is thought to be attributable to the advanced stage at presentation in these minority groups.
The following information was published by the Melanoma research alliance.
Acral melanoma, sometimes called acral lentiginous melanoma, is a rare subtype of melanoma that forms on the palms, soles of feet, or under finger or toe nails. Unlike cutaneous (skin) melanoma, it is not believed to be caused by sun exposure and therefore occurs in areas not typically exposed to the sun. Acral melanoma affects people of all races and ethnicities.

When the Arabs initially encountered mummified bodies, their dark colour reminded them of bitumen known to them as mum. Hence, the Arabs called the bodies ‘mumia’, after the blackest material they knew.
However, in 2016, scientist K A Clark and team decided to undergo the investigation of exactly how much bitumen was used in the Egyptian mummification compounds.
The researchers investigated 91 materials comprising balms, tissues and textiles from 39 mummies dating from ca 3200 BC to AD 395.l, they targeted petroleum bitumen biomarkers .
Surprisingly, they found that during the Old, middle and New Kingdoms of Egypt, that none of the mummification compounds contained ANY detectable bitumen.
This proved that the blackness of the mummified Egyptians was either the natural expression of deep melanin pigmentation in the skin, or the result of some of othe unknown chemical combination.First Putin... now King Charles reveals TRUTHThe Kings Monologue2024-05-30 | ...Amenhotep III - Lets settle this...The Kings Monologue2024-05-23 | We will discuss it all in this LIVESTREAM, so make sure you join us!
