The Nissan S14 debuted in Japan in the fall of 1993. It was lower, shorter and slightly wider than the S13. Wheelbase and track have been increased for better handling. Unlike the other markets, the car remained popular in Japan. The Silvia S14 received a new version of the SR20DET with the larger T28 turbocharger. This had 161 kW (220 hp) in Japan, the KA24DE 155 hp.
The 200SX underwent a facelift in the summer of 1996 (internal designation: S14a). It got more aggressively shaped headlights and changed taillights. Technical "deficiencies" were remedied (e.g. easily tearing manifold, etc.), MAP sensor was omitted, heated seats, leather interior and air conditioning as standard (in Germany). The interior has been refreshed (speedometer, steering wheel).
The special models Z Edition, Racing and Sportline were introduced, which differed in details such as color, rims, spoiler lips, interior trim. This updated version is known as the Kouki S14 or as the S14a (Europe). It was produced until autumn 1999.
There was also a sports model called 270R from Nismo, of which only 50 pieces were made. In Taiwan, the S14 was also assembled by the Yulon Motor Company. But this time the model ranked in the luxury class and was named AREX Elite 901 according to the manufacturer in its new luxury brand.
