One of the earlier games released for the 3DS and quite surprising to see on a Nintendo console at this time considering how dark the game is and the amount of profanities thrown around throughout the game. It's a far cry from Mario Kart 7 which hadn't been released yet at this point. Its worth pointing out that the games map looks suspiciously reused from VD's previous game 'COP: The Recruit' on the DS.

The game is set between the two original driver games. Tanner is presented as a cliché movie action hero with a very predictable plot. The game mainly has you driving around a a sparse New York City with plenty of destroyable scenery. The missions consist of out running the enemy, chasing the enemy and or destroying the enemy. You destroy enemies by ramming them. You can earn boost by destroying things, drifting or jumping to power up a rage meter that lets you do more damage or turbo boost. The control feels quite floaty and oversensitive which makes it challenging to get the car going in a straight line at times.

The longplay is a recording of Story mode which consists of 20 missions. There is no time limit so that's a nice relief compared with other games in the series. The car takes damage and if it catches on fire, a garage needs to be found fast to instantly repair the car before some random enemy smashes into you, killing you. It's very short overall and completing on Hard difficulty will reward you with an additional 19 cars.
