Here’s another take on Nils Frahm’s Canton.
(Actually, this was the first version I recorded—but after playing and listening to both takes, I felt the second version was better, so I uploaded that one first yesterday: youtu.be/Rk3BNYmss6c.
But today, after giving this first version another listen, I decided… hey, it’s not that bad after all—so here it is.)
*“Canton” is the closing track on Nils Frahm’s 2025 EP Night, released on May 9 via LEITER. The piece exemplifies Frahm’s signature fusion of ambient textures and minimalist piano, offering a meditative soundscape that invites deep introspection.
It was recorded on the Klavins M450—a towering 4.5-meter upright piano located in Frahm’s Berlin studio at the Funkhaus complex—showcasing the instrument’s immense tonal richness and depth.
Night serves as a companion to Frahm’s 2024 solo piano album Day, with both releases available together in the special Night & Day CD edition. This pairing reflects the duality in Frahm’s work—contrasting the still, reflective nature of Day with the expansive and textural ambience of Night.
