This is a special presentation of Tom Leahy Jrs. late-night television program Nightmare, seen here in its 1970s incarnation. Monster Movie Kid (horror movie blog) suggested that The Basement Sublet of Horror (public access TV show) create a hybrid version of a demo reel that Leahy shot to promote the show, which featured a set of Nightmare host segments, combined with the Tom Leahy directed feature film “The Beast from the Beginning of Time”. Nightmare was one of the first horror host programs to hit the airwaves in the late 1950s, based on the Universal Shock Package of horror movies and programming suggestions. Tom Leahy Jr. who not only played “The Host”, but also wrote the scripts and created the sets, and costumes, along with his make-up, produced the show. The show ran for various incarnations from the late 1950s to the 1960s and 70s, all the way into the 1990s. Beginning at KARD Television station in Wichita, Kansas, to a run on KAKE TV, followed by a revival on KSAS originally a UHF station. Leahy started his career as a radio announcer, who moved to television, then into acting and on-air presentations. He also appeared as a daytime cartoon host known as Major Astro, produced and starred in a feature film “The Beast from the Beginning of Time”, an appearance in the film “King Kung Fu”, and produced a television pilot called “Green Hell from the Void.”
