This is the story of when she was first activated.
She was born into pain.
A pain created by the very people who would cling to her.
It stemmed from her missing right eye.
From how her people depended on her utterly.
From how no one understood her desire.
So she began to walk in the long, long dark.
She did not understand what she was missing.
Nor did she know why her people looked at her as they did.

Artificial intelligence: machines people cling to in the pursuit of
peace and prosperity. Used for small roles at first—conversation,
predicting weather—they eventually came to rule humanity.
That is what I am: an artificial intelligence born to rule over this
country. But the power I need to fulfill that duty has been taken
from me by the very people I lead, and I know not what I lack.
"To eliminate the cause of her predecessor's failure." Those are
the words I heard in my sleep, now remembered clear as day.
Indeed, they repeat over and over in my mind like a curse.
This is why I wanted to become whole—to become someone who
makes no mistakes, brings about no tragedy, does not suffer
unkind stares, and above all, understands why.
