As we leave Niagara Falls behind, we're heading east along the Niagara Scenic Parkway on a quiet, lightly traveled afternoon. A light rain drifts across the roadway, adding a soft, peaceful feel to the drive.
To our right, the Niagara River flows steadily toward Lake Ontario, offering one last stretch of beautiful waterfront scenery. This is one of the final opportunities to enjoy these river views before turning inland.
Soon, we'll make our way toward Interstate 90 by following I190 and then I290. After a short distance, the route merges back onto I190 southbound, guiding us away from the falls and toward the New York State Thruway.
For now, enjoy the calm road, the gentle rain, and this last glimpse of the Niagara River as we continue our journey home.
We've just merged onto I190 and are crossing the North Grand Island Bridge, leaving Niagara Falls behind and entering Grand Island. To either side, the Niagara River surrounds this large island, creating a unique stretch of highway between two waterways.
Ahead lies the South Grand Island Bridge, which will carry us off the island. Not far beyond, I190 connects with I290, continuing the journey toward Interstate 90 and points farther east.
For now, it's a peaceful drive across one of the most distinctive landscapes in western New York.
We're now traveling east on I290 around Buffalo, where traffic is a bit heavier than it was near Niagara Falls. This route serves as a convenient bypass of downtown Buffalo.
Had we stayed on I190, the drive would have taken us through the city's downtown core before eventually connecting with Interstate 90. Instead, we'll pass near University at Buffalo, the largest campus in the SUNY system.
Buffalo, the second largest city in New York, has long been an important center for industry, transportation, and Great Lakes commerce. As we continue east, we're getting closer to rejoining the New York State Thruway.
We're now merging onto I90 East, the New York State Thruway. Nearby is Buffalo Niagara International Airport, one of western New York's busiest travel hubs.
