「Vision AI for Science and Engineering Applications」
講演者 :Mohamed Wahib(理化学研究所 計算科学研究センター)
"Vision AI for Science and Engineering Applications"
Speaker: Mohamed Wahib (RIKEN R-CCS)
Date and Time: Thursday, July 31, 2025, 9:00–10:00 (JST)
This talk explores the current state and future prospects of Vision AI in science and technology from theoretical, technical, and practical perspectives. We demonstrate the potential of AI's advanced pattern recognition capabilities applied to complex spatio-temporal data in domains such as fluid dynamics, weather prediction, and microscopy image analysis, while discussing the construction of an efficient analysis platform in preparation for the next-generation supercomputer "Fugaku NEXT." On the technical side, we address the quadratic scaling problem of Vision Transformers (ViT) by proposing Adaptive Patching, inspired by Adaptive Mesh Refinement (AMR), demonstrating significant reductions in computational cost while maintaining accuracy. Related techniques including Gumbel Tree and Channel Parallelism are also introduced. As a practical application, we present an infrastructure inspection project for highways that combines SPring-8 and Fugaku, featuring 3D reconstruction of internal concrete structures and automated fine-structure analysis using AI.
