Learn everything you need to get started with Next.js. Course notes: codingafterthirty.com/dashboard/next-js-crash-course-2024/getting-started-with-next-js-and-shadcn-ui
Hey there, wonderful people! This is the first video to jump-start the new Next.js crash course that I am working on.
In this Next.js crash course, we'll get started with Next.js and Shadcn UI for a complete guide to building your next project. Perfect for beginners or for anyone looking to learn to code or explore all the new features of Next.js
This crash course will teach you everything you need to know to start with Next.js quickly.
In today's video, we'll set up a Next.js project and integrate my favorite UI library, Shadcb UI. This library provides incredible components powered by Tailwind CSS.
We'll also explore file-based routing and set up a basic layout, including a header and footer.
Remember, the Next.js documentation is your best friend, so check it out for more details. By the end of this video, you'll have a solid foundation to build on, and we'll continue to expand on it in the following lessons.
In future videos, we will cover data fetching, using react server and client components, and handling form submissions via server actions.

Exploring Bolt.New: Build & Deploy Web Apps in Your Browser. Who is this tool for? And is it better than Corsor AI and V0. First impressions.
bolt.new: Who Is This For? [ first Impression of ai-powered app builder ]
In this video, I dive into my first experience with Bolt, a new AI tool designed for quick project scaffolding. As AI continues to evolve, I wanted to explore whether these tools are here to replace us or simply enhance our workflow.
🔑 Key Points Covered:
- Introduction to Bolt: I share my initial thoughts on what Bolt claims to offer and how it works.
- Project Scaffolding: Watch as I attempt to scaffold a Doggy Daycare website using Astro and Tailwind.
- Prompting Challenges: I discuss the ambiguity of natural language prompts and how they can lead to unexpected results.
- Alternative Tools: I compare Bolt with other tools I prefer, like Cursor AI and VZero, and explain why I find them more effective for my workflow.
Final Thoughts: Ultimately, I ponder who Bolt is truly for and whether it adds value to a developers toolkit.
In my experience, both v0 and Cursor AI offer more efficient and user-friendly approaches compared to tools like Bolt. One of the key advantages of v0 is its focus on generating individual components rather than entire projects at once.
This allows for a more targeted and manageable workflow, as I can create specific elements, such as a calendar for my Doggy Daycare business, and then fine-tune them according to my needs. This granular approach reduces the risk of ambiguity associated with broader prompts, enabling me to work on smaller, more concentrated tasks that align better with my vision.
Similarly, Cursor AI enhances my development process by integrating AI capabilities directly into my coding environment without overwhelming me with unnecessary complexity. It allows for in-line AI assistance, meaning I can choose when to utilize AI features based on my current needs. This flexibility is crucial, as it empowers me to maintain control over my workflow while still benefiting from the advantages of AI.
In contrast, tools like Bolt tend to generate whole projects based on ambiguous prompts, leading to outcomes that may not meet my expectations. The lack of clarity in prompts can result in wasted time and effort as I navigate through the generated content, often requiring significant adjustments to align it with my requirements. By choosing v0 and Cursor, I can optimize my productivity and focus on solving real business needs and creative challenges, rather than getting bogged down in the complexities of project scaffolding and extensive refactoring.
✨ Benefits of Watching:
- Gain insights into the capabilities and limitations of AI in project scaffolding.
- Understand the importance of clear prompting when working with AI tools.
- Explore alternative tools that might better suit your development needs.
Join the conversation about the future of AI in programming—Id love to hear your thoughts in the comments!

![I Was Using AI Wrong and It Was Making Me Dumb [ this is now what I do instead ]
Do you ever feel like youre about to have a heart attack when the internet goes out, and suddenly you cant access Co-Pilot or your favorite AI dev tools? I know I do. It got me thinking: is all this AI tooling making me dumb?
Heres what I started doing differently. Im a huge fan of AI tools, especially Cursor.ai, and its been amazing.
But I also realized it can quickly become a dependency that stunts your learning to code growth.
Just like social media can rot your brain, AI tools can do the same if youre not careful.
I decided to change my approach and use AI to boost my coding skills and computer science knowledge.
In this video, I show you how I started to use AI to help me become a better developer rather than just a quick fix.
If you rely on AI to think, your coding abilities can slide.
I built a system that generates train tracks, using AI to help me learn about coding, pathfinding algorithms, and core computer science concepts.
Here are the key insights:
Use AI to enhance your understanding and develop skills, not just to find easy solutions.
I show how I used AI to overcome coding challenges and generate documentation while gradually building my project.
I highlight the value of asking AI the right questions to identify knowledge gaps and learn essential programming principles.
I encourage you to use AI as an educational tool, deepening your grasp of coding fundamentals while working on your projects. I Was Using AI Wrong and It Was Making Me Dumb [ this is now what I do instead ]](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/Wi35Z89s5kg/mqdefault.jpg)
