Barry Blitt’s cartoons have been expertly lampooning politics and culture in America for more than two decades. His wry and provocative New Yorker covers often become the defining image of a political moment, earning him adoration from critics and fans and hate mail from his more thin-skinned targets. He joins us to discuss his most iconic work – from the infamous New Yorker Obama fist bump and George W. Bush’s drowning cabinet to the many misadventures of Donald Trump – and offers us an exclusive view into the creative process of one of the foremost political cartoonists of our time. Blitt appears in conversation with Adrian Todd Zuniga, host and creator of Literary Death Match.
Since 1992, Barry Blitt has contributed illustrations and more than eighty covers to The New Yorker, including Deluged, which was voted Cover of the Year by the American Society of Magazine Editors in 2006, and The Politics of Fear, a finalist for the same award in 2009. His work has also appeared in Vanity Fair, Time, Rolling Stone and the Atlantic, and he illustrated Frank Rich’s weekly column in the New York Times. Blitt has been honored with exhibitions and awards from the Society of Illustrators, Print and American Illustration, and is a member of the Art Directors Club Hall of Fame. His work for children includes George Washington’s Birthday and Once Upon a Time, the End (Asleep in 60 Seconds).
