Trained at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts and the Royal Academy Schools in London, Shilun fuses Chinese folklore, manga, and the precision of gongbi painting into scenes he calls a personal mythology — "a sugar-coated bullet," in his words: "It looks sweet and delicate, but when you come closer, you're like, what happened here?"

Across the canvas, bodies mutate, limbs vanish, and princely figures hover between ceremony and catastrophe, rendered in a pastel palette that masks real menace. Already in collections including the High Museum of Art, the Albertina, and the Dallas Museum of Art, Shilun has emerged as one of the most closely watched painters of his generation.
