The College of Music’s Thompson Jazz Studies Program is shaking up CU Boulder’s 2024 commencement ceremony with new takes on the timeless rendition of "Pomp and Circumstance" (1901). The traditional graduation march has been reimagined in three new styles: Latin Jazz, New Orleans Funk and Big Band Swing.
CU Boulder Today spoke about the project with John Gunther, director of the Thompson Jazz Studies Program, Paul Mckee, an associate professor of jazz studies who arranged the new styles, and Grayson Stewart, a graduating jazz studies major who performed in the Big Band Swing arrangement.
