New research from Heterodox Academy: we surveyed 3,500 faculty nationwide about viewpoint diversity in their own disciplines. The results cut against the story most people tell about higher education.
89% of liberal faculty say a diversity of theories and methods makes their discipline better. Among conservative faculty it's 75%. Support is strong across every political leaning and every discipline we surveyed.
But nearly one in three faculty told us they don't regularly talk with colleagues who disagree with them.

THE FINDINGS
• 84% of all faculty say differences in theory and method make their field stronger
• 89% of liberal faculty agree — the highest of any political group
• Support holds across STEM, social sciences, professional and arts disciplines
• 28.7% report no regular engagement with colleagues who disagree
