The Oregon Department of Emergency Management (OEM) issued new guidance to support tsunami vertical evacuation structures on Aug 26, as people will only have minutes to escape a tsunami and try to reach higher ground. OEM officials tell me these structures can help save hundreds or even thousands of lives during a tsunami since they shorten the distance to high ground.
