This is a short look at a new, or rather more developed star-ship concept. In this concept the Warp Wing encases the entire ship so that it will be within the warp bubble. See go.nasa.gov/ZPWZnM and en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcubierre_drive if your a geek (like me).
I have also given this ship atmospheric capability. Being encased within its own region of flat space-time it is outside the effect of a planets gravitational pull.
Built in the late 26th century The ship is 7km long and is part of a project to survey habitable worlds for future colonization. Each voyage is roughly 15 years in duration with up to six years return travel at speeds of up to 22 times the speed of light. This gives eight or so years planet side to perform an in depth survey of the planet and solar system.
The crew comprises 8,000 humans and 16,000 sentient human analogues. 25,000 passengers, (scientists and their teams) live and work in a luxurious and homely environment. The ship includes an independent university providing ongoing research, education and publication. Laboratories and research and development facilities and a factory capable of 3 and 4D printing anything the community needs.
There are four libraries, three museums, six art galleries, recreational, sporting and art and craft studios.
Its home 60 light years from home for the next fifteen years.....
And yes i have toooooo much time on my hands! And loving it. The models were made in Blender 2.75 (Blender Internal). The whole project took roughly three months part time to complete. Cant wait for a better computer and Pixar Render-man! (if you need to ask you wouldn't understand the answer).
