Continuing on annual tradition, the New Hope & Ivyland Railroad ran steam powered trains from New Hope to Lahaska on their Santa Steam Spectacular trains. From Thanksgiving weekend today the weekend after Christmas, 40 performed flawlessly on these trips. Running every weekend and weekdays close to Christmas, there was no shortage of steam on the ex. Reading New Hope Branch. The consist consisted of 3 former Reading coaches, an ex. Union Pacific first-class dining car, and an ex. Boston & Maine Steel caboose, a brand new car for 2020.

Between November and December, 40 sported numerous looks and sounds. On the first weekend of trips, 40 was in its normal New Hope & Ivyland scheme with a Crosby 3 Chime. From the second weekend to the last weekend, a Christmas wreath was added to make 40 look more festive, and the Crosby 3 Chime was swapped out for the CNJ 3 Chime which was worn by 40 for a few years in the early 2010s.

The crews put on a great show to end 2020 on a good note. So sit back, relax, and enjoy branchline passenger trains pulled by the small 1925 2-8-0.

$Reading 2102: Sand Train to Tamaqua Between the 2025 and 2026 seasons, the Reading & Northern Steam Crew spent much of the off-season making new crosshead slippers for Reading 2102. After its first excursion of the for the 2026 season in February, the locomotive would not run again until Memorial Day weekend, kicking off its busiest summer since returning to service in 2022. During this three month hiatus, the new crosshead slippers were installed on the locomotive. Prior to the start of the summer excursions, the Steam Crew fired up 2102 to test the work they completed during the winter and spring maintenance period. After the 2102s fire was lit, Andy Muller, the owner and CEO of the Reading & Northern, decided to put the engine to use, and the 2102 pulled a loaded 30-car revenue freight train loaded with frac sand between Port Clinton and Tamaqua for its test run. Additionally, the consist included Caboose 94850, which just was released from the West Cressona Paint Shop adorning wearing a beautiful paint scheme celebrating the 250th Anniversary of the United States. In total, the consist weighed in at 4,310 tons. The 2102 put on a spectacular show as it pulled its heavy freight train the 20 miles between Port Clinton and Tamaqua on the Reading & Northerns Reading Line. So sit back, relax, and enjoy 21st century steam railroading at its finest as 2102 storms through the mountains of Pennsylvania pulling a revenue freight train.
