This is my favourite new feature in After Effects 25.2: Create Null Controllers for Positional Points.
With two clicks, you can now add a Null object to the position of your shape.
It allows you to easily access path points and animate them. The same works for mask points.
Another option is to let a Null trace your path.
You can even create Null controllers for the gradient start and end points of your shape layer fills.
As well as for positional properties of all effects - and the puppet points of the puppet tool.
