I found out how to make a really compact empty cart detector. Really it just detects humans, so you can use this as a stone pressure plate as long as you are still moving. Revolutionary!

EDIT: I somehow saw infinitrivial's video on this same detection, then forgot, then reinvented it. Now I feel bad :(
