BREAKING: Mayo County Councillor suddenly needs use of vacant building sought by Burkes
Councillor Ger Deere is “crying out” for a meeting room in Castlebar.
We wrote to Mayo County Council earlier this week regarding the potential use of Marsh House for a tuition centre. We have been seeking a premises to rent in Castlebar town for over three years, to no avail. Marsh House is owned by Mayo County Council, and up until June 2026, was leased to Castlebar Educate Together National School who had been there for 10 years. Educate Together have now left the building and it is currently vacant.
No response has yet been received by us.
However, this morning, an article has appeared on the Connaught Telegraph stating that Councillor Ger Deere is “crying out” for a meeting room for the Castlebar Municipal District and has expressed interest in Marsh House.
Castlebar Municipal District already has the use of a large, million-euro complex in Castlebar. Further millions are due to be poured into the complex in the coming months. It seems that’s not enough. Castlebar Municipal District are still without a room to meet in, according to Ger Deere.
Are the people of Castlebar to be made fools of, listening to this nonsense? As families are struggling and seeking help for their children, and now those willing to provide that help are denied a place in Castlebar town?
