Bloody Disgusting has revealed some casting news for the much anticipated "Spiritual Sequel" / reboot of Candyman, produced by Jordan Peele. It seems as though original Candyman (1992) heroine Helen Lyle is returning to the franchise in a major role, but this time bring played by Cassie Kramer (Happy Hour).
The character of Helen Lyle, originally played by Virginia Madsen, was a graduate student who was researching urban legends for her thesis, and unwittingly summoned the vengeful spirit of Candyman, who had been terrorizing the Cabrini Green projects of Chicago. Helen eventually met with a grizzly fate at the end of the movie, becoming an urban legend herself, and a vengeful spirit out for blood.
Although the mythology of the character was never further developed in the subsequent sequels, it appears as though she will be back in this 2020 reboot. And if the movie is following the continuity of the original, it could very well be that both Candyman and Helen, will be terrorizing a new generation of victims together.
