South King County residents will soon have a new, expanded place to drop off recycling and household hazardous waste as King County marks the opening of a modern recycling and transfer station in Algona.

King County Executive Girmay Zahilay joined elected officials and community members Thursday to celebrate the completion of the South County Recycling and Transfer Station, which will serve communities in and around Algona, Auburn, Federal Way and Pacific.

The facility is expected to increase recycling capacity and provide a permanent drop-off location for household hazardous waste.

The new station, at 35101 W. Valley Highway S. in Algona, replaces the neighboring Algona Transfer Station that was built in the 1960s.
