The 2027 Porsche 911 GT3 RS could bring some of the biggest changes yet to Porsche's ultimate track focused 911. New 992.2 prototypes suggest major aerodynamic upgrades, revised cooling and potentially a very different powertrain.
In this video, we compare the upcoming Porsche 911 992.2 GT3 RS with the current 992.1 GT3 RS and look at what Porsche could be preparing for its next road legal track machine.
The current GT3 RS combines a naturally aspirated 4.0 liter flat 6 producing 518 horsepower with a 9,000 revolutions per minute redline, a 7 speed Porsche dual clutch transmission and an advanced active aerodynamic system. It is already one of the most extreme production versions of the Porsche 911.
However, development prototypes of the 992.2 GT3 RS point toward an even greater focus on aerodynamics. Revised front air management, new canards, changes to the hood extraction system, a more aggressive rear diffuser and an experimental rear wing arrangement could help the next GT3 RS produce even greater downforce.
The biggest question surrounds the engine. Reports and prototype details have raised the possibility of turbocharging, which could dramatically change the character of the GT3 RS while potentially pushing power into a new territory. Additional cooling openings seen on development cars add even more intrigue to the powertrain story.
We look at the expected engine, aerodynamics, active rear wing, Drag Reduction System, suspension, chassis technology, transmission and design changes while comparing them with the current Porsche 911 GT3 RS.
