Less than a month away from the NGC X , I'd thought Id give my two-cents worth on the situation. It seems like the system is primarily marketed to card collectors and other 10-point grading system hobbies.
Some pros I see are
1.) Card Collectors migrate and delve into coins and eventually get into the "classical" parts of coin collecting
2.) Beginners are able to grasp grading better (bit of a stretch since its still weird)
3.) NGC makes enough money that they can increase quality on grading service without raising rates
Some cons I see are
1.) The modern coin market will further devolve into a pump-and-dump scheme for collectors.
2.) The Vault boxes will probably addict a few people into gambling ( although silver raffles kind of already do this)
3.) People will get burned financially and blame the hobby instead of the system/ game they were playing making others who would have enjoyed numismatics turn away from it.
What do you guys think of it? For the card collectors, does this make coin collecting more interesting to you?
