The story of Pyre tells the tale of you, the Reader, an individual who is attempting to lead a team known as the Nightwings back to a freedom they once knew. The Nightwings compete against an opposing team in an event known as the Liberation Rite to determine whether one of them will ascend back to the Commonwealth, their homeland, or remain in the Downside, a land filled with those exiled from the Commonwealth. Only one side shall emerge victorious, and only one exile will ascend from the Downside never to return...
Originally composed by one of the two singers Darren Korb, “Never to Return” can be heard as the background music played during the Liberation Rite. Its powerful lyrics and warm vocals help convey the struggle of the Nightwings to the listener in a compelling way.
