Keeping words in your head is a hard thing to learn. It’s not enough to just learn them. Mastering this skill is the key to mastering any language.
Repetition is key. Maybe it takes 17 times hearing a word until you learn it and internalise it.
Flashcards might be helpful. I’ve found them very useful, but I wouldn’t recommend relying on them as your main source of study.
When I force myself to use words out loud, I find they are internalised much more easily. I have a list of words that I want to use with my teacher. Even though they are forced the first time, it helps them stick in my memory much more easily
Make it silly and fun!
Make mnemonics. (BECAUSE: Big elephants can always understand small elephants.
Use music and rhymes (think of the ABC song!)
