If you've played around with EQ in Spotify you've likely made your music WORSE. More distorted, less quality... but why? This video explains what's wrong with the Spotify EQ, as well as how to improve your music experience tenfold.
Music is made to be experienced and enjoyed by the listener. If you want to crank it, do so. If you like the distorted sound you get, then go for it. This is more of an opinion. There are many higher-quality sources than Spotify, but if that's what you're happy with, then why not a free improvement?
It's not just bass that distorts when you boost it in Spotify's EQ, it's everything. "Bass Boost" is just the usual thing people go to on Spotify, and it may not be the best range to show the issues - but it will be the most common.
