She was dreaming, asleep in bed.
Now she's buried under rubble,
wondering if her family is dead.
She needs help on the double.
Rubble trapped her in place.
Dust is covering her face.
She cannot move. She's pinned.
Leg is broken and skinned.
Bombs are falling. Kaboom.
Why do people assume
violence is okay for the occupying state?
They're unaware of the history since 1948.
Suddenly someone yells out her name.
She calls for help. Freedom is her aim.
Nobody has a right to oppress.
Community digs her out of this mess.
Hospital workers do their very best
to calm the heart in her little chest.
Her leg is damaged beyond repair.
She takes a breath of polluted air.
There's no anesthesia.
Not even a bed.
She lies on the dirty floor.
She'd rather be playing, instead.
An amputation is performed.
The terrified child screams.
No one deserves this nightmare.
Tears flow like streams.
Medics describe this child
with an acronym not uncommon here.
WCNSF
Wounded Child, No Surviving Family
Around the world, people see pictures
and videos of people suffering.
Marches and rallies happen all over,
saying genocide is a disgrace.
Other people remain silent.
Turn away from things they don't want to see.
If it was their child under rubble,
they would feel differently.
Can't you see we are one, everybody?
We all hurt when anyone is bloody.
We are all family. We can unite.
World peace is our destiny, that's right.
We have all seen the pictures of people
wrapped in white fabric, with blood stains.
That makes us sad 'cause we're empathetic.
An eye for an eye, means no eye remains.
Never again, means never again for anyone.
