When a medium sized star runs out of fuel, it explodes into a giant supernova and sometimes leaves behind a Neutron Star. A Neutron Star is a very dense star, made up of Neutrons. Their diameter is roughly 10 to 12 km whereas their mass could be 1.4 times of the Sun.

HV 2112 is a cool luminous variable star, located roughly 200 light-years away in the Small Magellanic Cloud in the constellation Tucana. HV 2112 is approx. 5 times heavier than our sun and has radius of about 675 - 1,193 times that of our sun.

When astronomers were studying this star they discovered a neutron star at its core. Until 2018, it was considered to be the most likely candidate for a Thorne–Żytkow object (TZO), but it is now thought to be an Asymptotic Giant Branch (AGB) star.
