In this 2-minute audio clip, Jungian scholar Dr. Lance Owens suggests that when Jungian Erich Neumann was looking for tzadik or guide when he went for analysis with Jung in Switzerland. During Neumann’s search for his Jewish roots, he had been intrigued by Martin Buber’s writings on Hasidism, a movement that centered on a transparency between the outer and the deeper realities, enabling one to see through, to perceive the Divine in the world. Neumann viewed Jung as a tzadik, a unique spiritual leader who had the ability to see through the world to the depth in a similar way.
