By the end of this video, you’ll know how to confidently write and balance the net ionic equation for HCl + NaOH = NaCl + H2O (Hydrochloric acid + Sodium hydroxide).
To write the net ionic equation for HCl + NaOH = we follow these steps.
1️⃣ Write & Balance the Molecular Equation
2️⃣ Break Strong Electrolytes into Ions (Complete Ionic Equation)
3️⃣ Cancel Spectator Ions & Write the Net Ionic Equation
If you are unsure if a compound is soluble when writing net ionic equations you should consult a solubility table for the compound. youtu.be/b0pDquyGSdk

🔹General Steps to Balance Net Ionic Eqs 🔹
1. Write the balanced molecular equation.
2. Write the state (s, l, g, aq) for each substance.
3. Split soluble compounds into ions (the complete ionic equation).
4. Cross out the spectator ions on both sides of complete ionic equation.
5. Write the remaining substances as the net ionic equation.
⚡ Why Do We Cancel Spectator Ions?
Spectator ions are present in the reaction but don’t actually change—they’re just along for the ride! That’s why we remove them to focus on the actual reaction taking place. Want to learn more? Check out this video 👉 youtu.be/PIciMJN5HwU
