Weather is important for aviation safety. Randy Bass is the Manager of the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Aviation Weather Division and the Aviation Weather Research Program (AWRP). Mr. Bass discussed how the FAA Weather Research Branch uses NOAA data to improve weather support and mitigate the impact on the National Airspace System (NAS). The AWRP conducts applied research using NOAA data to reduce the influence of weather on aviation while improving safety and efficiency for commercial airlines, helicopter operations, and general aviation. This talk was given as part of the NOAA Satellite and Information Service’s’ “Meet the Users” Speaker Series.
