I highly doubt this will win and that’s totally fine, it was rather fun to do once I got in the swing of it and I actually really like how it turned out. You may have noticed that I’ve changed my style for drawing talons because I wanted to try something different.

If anyone remembers this guy, you have an amazing memory because he only appeared in 2 videos, both of which are speedpaints. This is the first time I’ve animated him and oh gosh drawing all those scales was PAINFUL. Could I have simplified the design? Probably. Will I? Lol nope.

So his name is Mirage and he’s one of my WoF (Wings of Fire) OCs. He’s a SandWing/HiveWing hybrid. He has the poisonous tail barb of a SandWing but he also has a long stinger that extends from the end of the barb that causes psychedelic hallucinations that can last up to 3 hours. The stinger won’t kill it’s victim but the tail barb can; however Mirage will only kill a dragon who is trying to kill him first.

He’s a talented thief and pickpocket who lives in the Scorpion Den among the other thieves. He can be hired for a suitable price but has been known to steal an item for a client, receive payment and then return in the night to steal the item back from the client, obtaining both the item and the payment. Anyone who wishes to hire him would be wise not to meet at their home. While he can be hired for various thieving jobs, Mirage will never take a job involving murder, as he doesn’t like killing other dragons.

He also refuses to steal from: dragonets, the sick or elderly or from orphanages. There have also been a few occasions where an orphanage receives an anonymous donation when Mirage was spotted in the general area. Does he have a heart deep down? He’d never admit it but it seems possible.

While he is a talented thief, he often ends up losing the treasure he’s stolen as he likes getting into drunken bar fights, or isn’t careful enough with where he keeps his treasure. He’s not too bothered though; he’s actually more interested in the challenge of getting the treasure, than the actual treasure itself.

He’s not interested in a relationship; however he will flirt with any dragon regardless of their gender if it will help distract them while he steals their coin purse, or to gain valuable information on a target or location. He can be surprisingly charming when he wants to be.

Despite being excellently stealthy, his unique appearance is impossible to disguise and when he is seen visiting other cities and items mysteriously vanish, it’s not too hard to figure out who took them. He has bounties out for him in several kingdoms but has yet to be caught as he is a deadly fighter and only really foolish dragons would dare challenge him with his dangerous barb and stinger.

Only one dragon has actually tried to kill him: an IceWing who responded to a ‘wanted dead or alive’ poster on Mirage. Mirage managed to slice his throat with his tail barb, and wears the IceWing’s tail spikes on a necklace as a warning. He found out that ironically the IceWing was also a wanted criminal, however he was wanted for multiple murders. Mirage presented the IceWings body to the IceWing Queen who grudgingly gave him the bounty and agreed to get rid of Mirage’s own bounty. Of course items still mysteriously vanished whenever Mirage was around…


I’m still trying to work out the full backstory of how his parents met, I have most of it sorted but there’s still some things I may need to change and I need to work out the timeline.



The editing is so rushed, I squeezed it all into the last 2 days and there’s a few parts I feel could have looked better but I just didn’t have the time to fix them. I hope this doesn’t look too bad because I’m out of practice with drawing frame by frame.

I didn’t have time to shade all the scenes, but the ones I did do actually came out so nice. The parts with the psychedelic colours are very short but I thought I’d better add a warning just to be safe.

The background colours are based off the original meme because it looks nice and because purple is my favourite colour.
