Last summer while visiting my friend Colby, we watched a popular Crunchyroll video dissecting this strange anime I hadn't seen - shortly after binging this incredible psychological thriller I saw a King of the Hill parody of its monumental catchy opening animation. I thought it'd be a funny joke video and within my skillset in After Effects, so I set out to make one of my own. How foolish I was, to not realize the incredible size of a project I was embarking on. The entire video was made in After Effects, recreating the 81 unique shots with Green-Screening, 3D models/compositing, various assets and effects, and on occasion digital painting in Photoshop.
So much of this project was OUT of my wheelhouse and required using Cinecom.Net tutorials, ProductionCrate, Film Riot, or other tutorials - a lot was funded by Patreon to get costumes, Adobe After Effects software, and other film gear that assisted in this. Humongous thanks to Corey "Darkages" and Peter Gillette for 3D and film tips, and everyone who's given feedback or encouragement on this terrible endeavor.

Musically, this track was already a natural joy to perform with a very 90s anime disco-meets-rock number! I was lucky to have Tera join in for both her fantastic fitting vocals and a few extra shots necessary to complete the recreation! Though I've seen this song arranged time and time again, I knew that the ridiculousness of this project's visuals ought to help it stand tall in its own right. We poured a lot of time into this one, and obviously I think I learned a lot in this crazy project about videography, VFX, and myself as a creator. This is my largest video project ever, and I do NOT anticipate making something like this again or alone..
