A Napoleonic era song about the Battle of Copenhagen (1801).
The Battle of Copenhagen of 1801 was a naval battle in which a British fleet fought and defeated a smaller force of the Dano–Norwegian Navy anchored near Copenhagen on 2 April 1801. The battle came about because Denmark joined the League of Armed Neutrality, a coalition with Russia, Sweden, and Prussia to protect neutral shipping from British naval interference. Britain feared the coalition would join Napoleonic France and use their combined fleets to cut off crucial supplies from the Baltic and potentially invade Britain. The ensuing Battle of Copenhagen was a British naval action to break Denmark's participation in the hostile alliance.
