This beautiful song was originally an instrumental piece entitled "Gabriel's Oboe", written by Ennio Morricone for the 1986 movie "The Mission". After many requests from the English soprano Sarah Brightman to allow her to write lyrics for the piece, he relented. She wrote lyrics in English which were translated to Italian by Chiarra Ferrau. I have provided the English lyrics here in this cover of the version recorded by the classical crossover group Il Divo. All vocals here are yours truly. Comments welcome!
