It's been a long while since I've done a proper walkthrough on this channel. So to keep the content flowing I decided it's time to begin my next walkthrough, this time on NFS Hot Pursuit 2, a game I last beat 9 years ago now. I recently made a video a few months ago of pursuit gameplay on this game using the soundtrack from 2005's Most Wanted. Turned out amazing, but my driving was dog shit and I kept getting busted far too quickly. I think it's time to shake the rust off and get back to proper form. I'll be doing this on the PS2 version, important to note as it’s vastly different compared to the Xbox, GameCube, and PC versions. This version is considered by many to be the superior one, in many different aspects. As this version was made by Black Box, they're first of many great NFS releases to come over the next decade, and the rest developed by EA Seattle.
The game is split into 2 game modes, Hot Pursuit & World Racing. The main difference being that Hot Pursuit mode features cops and World Racing mode doesn't. And both game modes feature an event tree with 30 different events to put your skills to the test. Of course this is how you also unlock most of the game's content as this is basically the career mode. The one in World Racing is called Championship and the one in Hot Pursuit is called Ultimate Racer, and we're gonna do all 60 events across both event trees. Each of these sets of events have their own unique challenges. Ultimate Racer adding traffic & aggressive cops to the mix while Championship mode features larger AI fields and more egregious rubberbanding AI. All 30 events in each event tree are connected together like a web which indicates which events you’ll unlock after completing one of them, or you could just select the event to bring up it's full description which should just directly tell you. Of course that also tells you what your goal is to complete the event and progress.
Depending on the particular event you can unlock 1 or more subsequent events, a car, track, or a combination of these. Sometimes like in this first event we'll be doing for instance, you don't necessarily have to win to unlock more events in the event tree although it will make you win it to also unlock the car or track tied to it as well. The way it’s designed, you don’t have to do every event to reach the end of the event trees but for the full experience, we’re going to anyway. We want everything unlocked by the time we’re done. Some events the car is chosen for you, others like this one for instance you'll get to choose from a small pool. The webs expand more & more as you get closer to the center at the halfway point before it slowly starts to narrow down again as you get closer to the end. Of course as you progress the events get harder & longer as you also start getting access to faster & faster cars. And in Ultimate Racer mode, the cops will constantly upgrade as well to keep up as you get to better cars. We'll start with Championship mode first and then go to Ultimate Racer and from there alternate back & forth between the 2 event trees doing one at a time. I've only got the first 6 events pre-recorded right now, the first 3 for each event tree, but I'll get more soon.
Our first task for Championship mode is winning a 3-lap single race on National Forest. Doing so unlocks the track for challenge mode, as well as events 2 and 3. The car pool is quite generous for this first event. Getting to choose between the Ford TS50, Lotus Elise, Mercedes-Benz CL55 AMG, Opel Speedster, or Vauxhall VX220. Throughout the game, I'll be utilizing a trick I already did a video on many years ago where you use the zone cam and time it just right so that the camera stops when you're back wheels are on the start/finish line to earn 180,000 NFS points each time. Makes getting the 5 million points required to unlock all the cars in the game tied to NFS points much easier. That way we'll guaranteed have all 49 cars in the game unlocked by the time we're all done.
