The Nebraska Basins are elliptical structures with raised rims and a major axis oriented toward the Great Lakes. They are analogous to the Carolina Bays on the Atlantic Coastal Plain, but they have not received much attention because their similarity was only noted at a conference of the Geological Society of America in 2001. Since then, it has become abundantly clear that the study of the origin of the Carolina Bays must include the Nebraska Basins.
